Shooting on Millpond Rd.

At 3:42 p.m., Laurens County Sheriff’s Deputies received a 911 Emergency Call at a residence in the 100 block of Millpond Road, Clinton, S.C. The caller stated that a black female, around 40 years of age was going into cardiac arrest. Public Safety Officers from nearby Clinton City Public Safety responded to the incident location and found the female unresponsive and to have apparent gunshot wounds to the upper body. After being unable to successfully revive the victim, Investigators have notified the Laurens County Coroner. Deputies with the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office have assisted the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office with detaining a person and vehicle of interest in Greenwood County. This incident remains an active investigation. We believe that this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

UPDATE….

At 7:30 tonight, I am pleased to announce that investigators with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office have placed 40-year-old Clinton Anthony Smith of Greenwood under arrest for the murder of 40-year-old Kimberly Smith. Investigators are currently on scene with the assistance of the State Law Enforcement Division processing evidence.
