Last week, the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office was proud to celebrate D.A.R.E. graduations at Hickory Tavern, Waterloo, and Gray Court-Owings Elementary Schools.
The D.A.R.E. program is a 10-week course designed for 5th grade students, focused on decision-making, resisting peer pressure, and understanding the importance of making positive, healthy choices.
Throughout the program, students learn how to handle real-life situations, stand up against bullying, and develop the confidence to say no when it matters most.
During each graduation, Chief Deputy Martin encouraged students to carry those lessons forward, reminding them that challenges will come-but they are not alone. He emphasized that both educators and law enforcement are here as resources and support systems, and that having the courage to make the right choice can make all the difference.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Sergeant Devost for his dedication and commitment to guiding these students over the past 10 weeks. His investment in their growth and character does not go unnoticed.
Congratulations to Gray Court-Owings student Kansas Jewell for being selected as the D.A.R.E. essay contest winner.
We are proud of each and every graduate and look forward to seeing the impact these lessons will have in their lives and throughout our community.
