Motor Vehicle Theft Subject Arrested
On February 23rd at approximately 1PM, Deputies in the Joanna area responded to Ellis Street in reference to a motor vehicle theft. Deputies patrolled the area immediately after receiving the call and observed the vehicle fail to stop at the stop sign on Rutledge Street. The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop at which time the subject began traveling at a high rate of speed, disregarding another stop sign. Subject passed several vehicles and was a danger to others on the road. On Highway 76, Clinton Police attempted to assist by deploying spike strips, however the subject went around them and lost control of the vehicle. Subject attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended.
Alexander Lyles of Gray Court was arrested and charged with Grand Larceny, Failure to Stop for Blue Lights, and Driving Under Suspension.
