Man Arrested on Five Counts of Assault and Battery, Deputy Commended

On December 26th at approximately 1:45PM, deputies responded to the area of Irwin Road in Laurens in reference to a report of a home invasion with shots fired. Deputies were advised that victims had fled with small children into wooded terrain while being actively fired upon.



Deputy Hawkins was the first to respond on scene and without hesitation or regard for his own safety, entered the wooded area in an urgent effort to locate the victims. Deputy Hawkins successfully secured the victims and safely removed them from the woods, ensuring their protection and preventing further harm.



The suspect, identified as Jerrel Isaac Lewis, was quickly placed into custody and charged as follows:


  • Burglary 1st Degree


  • 5 counts of Assault and Battery 1st Degree


  • Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime


  • Ill Treatment of Animals


  • Resisting Arrest



Lewis remains in our Detention Center with no bond.
