Narcotics/SCDC Contraband

​On October 26, 2017 the Narcotics Unit of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office disrupted a Major Illegal Contraband Operation in which individuals were providing large quantities of contraband to SC Prisons, including Tobacco, Illegal Narcotics, Cell Phones, and Escape Tools. The Narcotic Unit was conducting an investigation in the Waterloo Community in reference to anonymous complaints of drug activity when they discovered this operation. The Sheriff’s office is continuing this investigation with SCDC Officials. ​During the investigation, Deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle which was occupied by Joshua George John and Travis Kemp. During the traffic stop Deputies located a quantity of pills on Mr. Kemp which were a schedule I controlled substance. During a search of the vehicle, Investigators located numerous items which they recognized as being used in the transportation of contraband. The items seized were valued in excess of $500,000.00 inside a correctional facility. Mr. Kemp and Mr. John were arrested and transported to Johnson Detention Center where they will be booked on these charges. ​Sheriff Don Reynolds stated the following: “The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office intends to bring hurt to drug pushers, and any other contraband dealers of any type.
