Burglary Arrests

On May 14, 2018 the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary in which a utility trailer and four wheeler were stolen from a residence in Clinton. On May 15, 2018 a friend of the victim saw what he believed to be the stolen utility trailer being pulled by an older model dodge Dakota. The Uniform Patrol Division located the vehicle and trailer on Whelon Rd in Laurens and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle fled and went toward Gray Court. The Deputy observed the fleeing vehicle attempt to enter I-385 in the wrong lane. Deputies backed off at this time and attempted to warn oncoming traffic. The driver of the vehicle lost control and collided with another vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Toby Horne fled on foot after the collision but was apprehended by deputies after a brief foot pursuit. It was later discovered that the vehicle was stolen out of Spartanburg County.

Sheriff Don Reynolds made the following statement regarding this situation: “It’s a miracle no one was killed by these thugs. They put everyone on the roadway in danger and we’re thankful no one was seriously injured. We intend to keep these criminals behind bars where they belong so hopefully they won’t be a danger to anyone else in the future.”

The following people were arrested as a result of this incident:

Toby Scott Horne

Nikki Lee Gerber

Darrell Scott Ellason
